College safety is a systemic issue but it often boils down to personal safety. You are responsible for you. Your college years can be the best years of your life, but can become a nightmare if you do not take steps to protect yourself. Let’s take a look at the top 10 safety tips for female college students.

10. Know Where Campus Safety Phones Are
Most college campuses have “panic phones” located around campus where students can patch directly to security officers if they are in trouble. Students, especially females, should make mental notes as to where these phones are in case they should ever need one. They have been proven to save lives.
9. Have a “Safety Buddy”
Having someone who has your back is important. Your safety buddy should be someone you can call if you get in a predicament or need to get a ride from. Also, you should establish a code word that means “I’m in trouble. I need help.” Having a campus safety buddy also means never going somewhere alone at night. Perps like to attack females where they are alone. There’s power in numbers.
8. Tell someone where you are Going and When You’ll Be Back
This is a very important safety tip. If you’re going to class it’s probably not a big deal to tell someone where you are going, but if you are going to a party make sure you tell someone where it’s at and when you plan on being back.
7. Always Have a Designated Driver
This goes without saying, but you would be surprised at how many college students drive drunk every weekend and end up getting arrested or injured. Take turns being a designated driver, that way you are not always stuck being sober when everyone else is drinking. You could end up saving someone else’s life.
6. If a Party gets too Crazy – Leave
College parties are getting more and more crazy these days. Students are pushing the boundaries of safety with their behaviors. If a party gets too wild and you feel uncomfortable just leave with your friends. Sure, college is about having a good time, but the main point is to get your education and have a great life. Don’t risk that by sticking around if things get out of hand.
5. Never Drink Alone with Someone You don’t Know
This also means never accepting food or drinks from someone you do not know. Date rape drugs are easy to use. Over 80% of crimes are committed by college students on college students. Like your parents said when you were little – “Stranger danger.”
4. Don’t Ride with Drunk or High Drivers
Putting your life into the hands of someone impaired by alcohol or drugs is just plain stupid. So what if everyone else is doing it and yelling at you to get into the car. They could all end up dead. You got accepted into college for being smart right? Show it by refusing to get in the car. If you’re the sober one, then offer to drive.
3. Never offer Rides to Strangers
Females should not offer rides to strange guys they do not know. There’s been too many girls go missing through this one mistake alone. Don’t become a statistic.
2. Practice Safe Sex
If you are going to engage in sexual intercourse, at least be safe about it. Don’t rely on him to think about safe sex. Carry protection with you.
1. Trust your Instincts
Many safety issues and problems could have been averted if the female would listen to her instincts. Women have a sixth sense when it comes to danger. You need to trust your “gut feeling” and get the heck out of there.
